Some people are asking, "What exactly is Game Center?" The answer is: Game Center is Apple's new application for the iPhone and iPod Touch (with the latest 4.0.1 Software*) It allows players to connect with each other and play certain multiplayer games** online. * Can be downloaded from iTunes when you plug your iPod or iPhone into the USB port. ** Game Center has a link to the app store with a list of all the game center compatible games. |
It's new and it's you! Game Center has a customizable profile. Set your status, choose a nickname, and add friends online!
Game Center has numerous features. For starters, you can get a list of compatible games at the tap of a finger. There's the ability to click "Play" while viewing a downloaded game, which will start up that game without you having to exit Game Center. As you can see in the photo there are "Me","Friends","Games", and "Requests" buttons at the bottom. I think those are rather self explanatory so I won't bother going into detail. Game Center allows players to play each other in Multiplayer modes. I have had a chance to play Fruit Ninja online. I found it rather entertaining. If you don't have any friends on Game Center, you can use Auto-Match to find random online players. There are achievements for certain games. For those of you who have used Open Feint, the achievement system works basically the same way. There is a lack of achievements at the time and I hope more are added soon. Apple has made a break-through with Game Center and I personally think it's quite better than Open Feint. |
