The iPod Touch 4g

Apple's new iPod Touch 4th generation includes the following new features:

  • Retina Display
  • Front camera
  • Back camera
  • Microphone
  • Better battery life
  • All features of iOS 4 and iOS 4.1
  • A4 chip (for faster interface)

When I first got the new Touch, I was very impressed.  The Retina display looks just as beautiful as it does on the iPhone 4.  However, I should probably take that back.  If you're someone who's really technical, you'll notice that it actually isn't just as vibrant or bright as the iPhone's Retina display.

This is because of the iPod's lack of IPS.  What IPS does is  makes sure the color and vibrancy still shows at any angle.  But again, like I said, unless you're really trying to see the difference, you're not really going to tell.

The 4th generation is noticeably faster than the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation.  The battery also lasts noticeably longer.

The microphone picks up well, like the iPhone.  It's not something really crappy that doesn't hear you until you put your mouth right up to it.  I've been talking to it from a foot away and it picks it up perfectly.

The back camera on the 4g iPod Touch isn't as good as the iPhone 4's, however.  The iPhone 4 has a 5 megapixel back camera with a flash.  The iPod Touch 4g has a 0.7 megapixel camera with no flash.  You can definately tell a difference when shooting around with random pictures.

The HD video recording, though, is still just as good on the Touch as it is on the iPhone.  (720p HD recording with 30 frames per second).

Overall, the new iPod Touch is faster, smarter, thinner, and even more fun. It is definitely recommended to anyone who is interested in these features, because Apple did accomplish them fairly well.
